For the last two years I have been teaching an introductory AI course that is based on a progression of ever more complex and competent agents. Because the progression follows what plausibly might have been milestones in the evolution of animals, I have called my approach evolutionary artificial intelligence, even though that phrase might risk confusion with the un-related approach to AI based on genetic algorithms.
