What Is Wrong with this Equation? Error Detection and Feedback with Physics Equations

One of the keys to a good intelligent tutoring system is its ability to identify and localize the error in a student’s answer and then generate useful feedback. This paper describes an algorithm that we have developed for analyzing errors in algebraic equations and generating feedback that is specific to the content.
