A variety of scholars have argued for the necessity of an argumentstructure within lexical items that forms an inte~ace with syntax. Williams (1994) argues for direct-theta-control, Grimshaw argues for a level of Argument structure, Pusteovsky (1993) has argued for an articulated notion of Events, and Hale and Keyser argue for a Lexical-Conceptual structure (1993) the sort advocated by Jackendoff in many works.
