Abstract:
Professionals such as military analysts, medical providers, and business administrators have a significant need to understand and make sense of an increasing quantity of data. We propose intelligent narrative-based interfaces as a means of organizing, presenting, and interacting with this data to im-prove user comprehension. This paper identifies critical questions and potential research paths in intelligent narrative-based interfaces for sensemaking. We propose a general architecture of intelligent narrative-based interfaces and identify central research questions in this area. We believe this new area of research has significant potential to use narrative technologies to impact a wide range of real world problems.
