In order to explore the relationship of resourcebounds and dialogue strategies that incorporate IRUs, I have developed a computational simulation environment called Design-World. The Design- World environment and task is presented in section 2. Like Tileworld, Design-World is structured around the IRMA agent architecture for resource-bounded agents[4, 18]. The Design-World simulation replaces action in the environment, with communicative acts that propose future actions. The IRMA architecture supports the separation of bounds on means-end reasoning and deliberation, which is necessary to test the hypotheses about the communicative functions of IRUs. Limited means-end reasoning is modeled by discrete Design-World parameter settings constraining how many inferences are made.
