Abstract:
The work described in this short paper is intended as a study of creativity in the domain of the invention and design of artifacts. Using archival records and a knowledge level model of the creative process, we have constructed a plausible explanation of the process by which microprogramming may have been invented by Wilkes. The paper presents the main results of this inquiry.
