The Fourth International AAAI Conference on Weblogs and Social Media was held on May 23–26, 2010, in Washington, DC, USA. This international venue brought together researchers from the disciplines of natural language, social psychology, data mining, sociology, and visualization to increase our understanding of social media in all its incarnations. Research that blends social science and technology was especially encouraged.
The 2010 meeting was held in Washington, DC, where government innovators experiment with the use of social media to increase transparency and better engage with the citizenry. The conference took advantage of this venue to invite leaders from “the goverati” to share their experiences in the use of social media.
Keynote Speakers And Tutorial Speakers
The keynote speakers for ICWSM-10 were Bob Kraut (Carnegie Mellon University) and Michael Kearns (University of Pennsylvania). Macon Phillips (U.S. White House, Head of New Media), James Pennebaker (Department of Psychology, University of Texas), Nicole Ellison (Department of Telecomm, Michigan State University), S. Craig Watkins (Department of Radio, TV, and Film, University of Texas) Don Burke (CIA, Intellipedia), and Haym Hirsh (NSF IIS) all presented invited talks.
