AAAI-18 Student Activities Overview

The Thirty-Second AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence
February 2-7, 2018, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

The organizers of AAAI-18 are continuing the strong student outreach program developed in the past few years — in particular, making AAAI-18 student friendly by arranging a number of activities for students attending the conference. Many of these activities are open to broader audiences, and so they are also a good way for anyone to expand their knowledge of AI. There are many opportunities for both students and researchers to be involved. We have highlight several below.

Plan now to involve your students in AAAI-18!

AAAI-18 Student Outreach Workshop

February 2-4, 2018 New Orleans
http://www.csavvy.org/AAAI18outreach/

Undergraduates with an interest in AI or Robotics are invited to apply to the AAAI-18 Student Outreach Workshop. This year’s outreach program features the Cozmo robot by Anki and the Calypso robot intelligence framework by Visionary Machines LLC. Cozmo is a consumer robot with built-in artificial intelligence, including object and face recognition, speech synthesis, path planning, and navigation. The Calypso software makes it easy for anyone to program Cozmo and visualize the robot’s representation of
the world.

Applications due January 5. Acceptance notifications will be sent on January 8, 2018.

Monday, February 5, 2018 (4-6pm)

Job Fair External Site: http://aaaijob-2018.preflib.org/

The AAAI/ACM SIGAI job fair is a place for students and professionals looking for internships or jobs to meet with representatives from companies and academia in an informal “meet-and-greet” atmosphere. In the beginning of the event, one representative from each organization has the opportunity to introduce the organization and its job opening(s) for about 1 minute. Afterward, all attendees have a chance to mingle.

Tutorials

AAAI will feature a number of tutorials that are very well suited for students who are new to a PhD program or new to AI research in general. The final list will appear here in January.

Breakfast with Champions: A Women’s Mentoring Event

AAAI is holding the fourth annual women’s mentoring event for students and junior women professionals to meet with senior women in artificial intelligence. Breakfast with Champions is scheduled for Monday morning, February 7, 2018. Previous events have been very popular and over-subscribed. If you are a female student or within five years of your most recent degree and interested in joining us, please apply by checking the box on the registration form. There is a $15 registration fee for attendees to help cover a portion of the event costs. If this fee would prevent you from attending, please contact aaai18@aaai.org.
