Abstract:
This article describes an associative memory system specialized to support the syntax and associated pattern matching rules common to declarative expressions, hence the name pattern-addressable memory, or PAM. A co-processor board based on this hardware - a custom VLSI chip combining both logic and memory - is described. It is shown how this hardware supports a number of popular intelligent system architectures.
