Dear AAAI Members,

Please note that applications for AAAI Senior Member status are due on March 15. Senior Member status is designed to recognize AAAI members who have achieved significant accomplishments within the field of artificial intelligence. To be eligible for nomination for Senior Member, candidates must be consecutive members of AAAI for at least five years and have been active in the professional arena for at least ten years. Applications should include information that details the candidate's scholarship, leadership, and/or professional service. AAAI members who meet these qualifications are welcome to apply for Senior Member grade. At least two references, one of which must be written by a AAAI Fellow or AAAI Senior Member, must accompany the application. References should be submitted by colleagues who know the candidate, and are familiar with their work and accomplishments. Please see for more information. The 2012 class of AAAI Senior member
s will be recognized at the opening ceremony at AAAI-12 in Toronto, Canada.

The deadline for submission of nominations for the 2012 AAAI Special Awards is also March 15. The two awards that will be presented in 2012 are listed below. All AAAI members are encouraged to nominate candidates for these awards. Please see for further information and nomination forms. The awards will be presented at the opening ceremony at AAAI-12 in Toronto, Canada.

2012 AAAI Classic Paper Award
The AAAI Classic Paper award honors the author(s) of paper(s) deemed most influential, chosen from a specific conference year. Each year, the time period considered advances by one year. The 2012 award will be given to the most influential paper(s) from the Eleventh National Conference on Artificial Intelligence, held in 1993 in Washington, DC, USA. 2012 AAAI Distinguished Service Award
The AAAI Distinguished Service award recognizes one individual each year for extraordinary service to the AI community. Areas of service could include, but are not limited to: society service, service as an editor, conference organization, representation of AI in other organizations (such as CRA, ACM, or IEEE), or influential service as a government agency contract monitor or program director, resulting in positive effects on the field of AI. Nominees must be current members of AAAI.
