Many new applications for autonomous robots in the human environment require them to help people as capable assistants or to work alongside people as cooperative members of human-robot teams. The work reported in this talk is part of an ongoing effort to develop humanoid robots that can work shoulder-to-shoulder with human teammates---anticipating the human’s needs and coordinating its actions with those of the human to accomplish a joint task.
