Retrospective Fusion of CT and MR Brain Images Using Mathematical Operators

An automated method to register three-dimensional Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) brain images is presented. In a first step, mathematically well founded differential operators in scale space are applied to 2D or 3D CT and MRI images resulting in feature images depicting 'ridgeness'. In a second step, a fully automatic hierarchical correlation scheme is applied to match the feature images. 2D and 3D matching results are shown.
