An Agent-based Architecture for Flexible Multimedia Communication Networks

To perform the multimedia communication across the internet, the following operations or adjustments are responsible for the users: (a) the decision of the most suitable setting of the system configuration and its parameters to realize the QoS which their own requirements are reflected by, (b) the selection of the most appropriate working parameters considering the system/network performances in run-time. But the essential multimedia properties make the non-expert users impossible to operate the application at ease. The flexible network we have proposed monitors the current users’ requirements and system performances, and controls the application configuration and parameters properly to maintain the users’ satisfiabilities and the systems’ stabilities. The flexibility is realized using the MAS, in which various types of agents that embed the domain knowledge of the design and operational experts of the multimedia applications. The ADIPS (Agent-based Distributed Processing System) framework is utilized as MAS framework to achieve our goal.
