Abstract:

The paper describes the KARDIO system - a computer simulation of a cardiac care unit (CCU) intended for use in the study of the ethical aspects of the decision-making of medical doctors. The rationale behind the system is described, as well as the trade-offs in the design phase. One of the underlying mathematical models is described in detail. The last part of the paper deals with the response of doctors towards the simulation.
